Answers to the things most people wonder about before reaching out

Getting started

What if I don't know what to talk about in the first session?

That's one of the most common things people say before their first appointment — and it makes complete sense. You don't need to prepare anything or have the right words. We'll start wherever you are, and I'll help guide the conversation from there. There's nothing you can say wrong.

What if I get emotional or cry?

Please don't worry about that. This is one of the few places where you don't have to hold it together. Tears are completely welcome — and honestly, for many people they're a sign that something real is finally being heard. There's no judgment here, ever.

I've tried therapy before and it didn't really help. Why would this be different?

That's a fair question — and an important one. Therapy works best when the fit is right: the approach, the relationship, and the timing all matter. If it hasn't clicked before, it doesn't mean it can't. The free 15-minute consultation is specifically designed to help you get a feel for how I work before committing to anything.

What if I start therapy and decide it's not for me?

That's okay. You're never locked in. We can talk openly about how things are feeling at any point, adjust the approach, or end our work together if that's what makes sense. Your comfort and autonomy matter throughout the process.

Practical questions

What are your rates?

Sessions are $150 per 50-minute session. I offer a limited number of sliding scale spots for clients who need fee flexibility — feel free to ask about this during the consultation.

Do you accept insurance?

I am out-of-network for most insurance plans. I can provide a superbill (a receipt you can submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement) upon request. I recommend calling your insurance provider to ask about your out-of-network mental health benefits before our first session.

Do you offer online therapy?

Yes. All sessions are available via secure, confidential video through a HIPAA-compliant platform. Online therapy is just as effective as in-person — and for many clients, it's actually easier to be open when they're in a familiar, comfortable space.

How often will we meet?

Most clients start with weekly sessions, especially in the beginning. As things progress, some people shift to bi-weekly. We'll figure out a cadence that makes sense for where you are and what you need.

How long does therapy take?

It depends on what you're working through and what your goals are. Some clients find real relief within 8–12 sessions. Others choose to continue longer-term because they find ongoing support valuable. There's no pressure either way — this is your process.

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask for 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Late cancellations or no-shows may be charged [your policy]. Life happens — if something comes up, just let me know as soon as you can.

About the process

What does a typical session look like?

Sessions are 60 minutes. There's no script or agenda. We talk about what's on your mind, what's come up since we last spoke, or whatever feels most important that day. Over time, patterns emerge and we work on them together in a way that's practical, not just reflective.

Is everything I share confidential?

Yes. Everything shared in therapy is confidential. There are a small number of legal exceptions — for example, if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others — which I'll explain fully before we begin. Outside of those exceptions, nothing leaves the room.

Do you give homework or exercises between sessions?

Sometimes, if it feels useful and you're open to it. Things like journaling prompts, breathing exercises, or small behavioral experiments can extend what we work on in session. But this is always collaborative — never mandatory.

You don't have to carry this alone

When you're ready — or even just curious — I'm here. The first step is just a conversation.
